Super Eagles manager Finidi George is closely monitoring the fitness of midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, whose recent performance against South Africa has many Nigerian football enthusiasts waxing lyrical about him.
The Hatayspor star was stretchered off following a dangerous tackle during a goal attempt, leading to his replacement by Alhassan Yusuf in the 61st minute.
Despite the setback, George praised Dele-Bashiru's performance and addressed concerns about team selection and the ongoing qualification campaign.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru: Praise amid injury concerns
Speaking to the press at the post-match presser, Finidi provided an update on Dele-Bashiru’s condition and was full of appreciation for his overall performance.
“On his injury, he had a knock, the medical staff will observe him and see how he feels,” Finidi said. “Those knocks, you will not know until you wake up in the morning and see how the body reacts.
“It was a great performance from him, that was why he played. People talk about changes but not about fielding a player. If he didn't do well, I know that question will come back to me, ‘why did he play?' Now that he has played, everybody is saying good performance.
“Like I said, leave this job to the coaches to do.”

The 53-year-old also stressed the importance of their qualification goals, saying, “We want to qualify and we'll do everything in our power to make sure we qualify. This is Nigeria, and we know the pressure is there.”
Dele-Bashiru takes Super Eagles chance with both hands
Handed his second appearance in a Nigerian shirt amidst all the talent around him, Dele-Bashiru caused South Africa's defence all sorts of problems and got Nigeria the all-important equaliser.
It is, however, uncertain whether Dele-Bashiru will be available for the Super Eagles' must-win encounter with Benin on Monday in Ivory Coast.
Dele-Bashiru made 34 appearances for his Turkish club in the recently concluded season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in the Super Lig.
According to Italian jounalist Alfredo Pedulla, as reported by beIN Sports, Serie A side Lazio are keen on signing the Nigeria international.
