There could be a transfer saga brewing in Serie A as Fiorentina rejects Aston Villa's opening bid for highly-rated fullback Michael Kayode.

According to La Nazione via ViolaNews, the Serie A side have emphatically rejected Aston Villa's opening bid of €20 million for the Nigeria-eligible youngster.

Kayode, 19, enjoyed a breakout season with Fiorentina in 2023/24. The Italian-Nigerian defender made a significant impact in his first full season with the first team, racking up 26 appearances in Serie A and contributing to three goals.

Offers rain in for Michael Kayode

This meteoric rise has naturally attracted the attention of several top clubs.

Aston Villa, recently qualified for the Champions League, sees Kayode as a potential replacement for Matty Cash, whose future at Villa Park remains uncertain. However, their initial offer seems to have fallen far short of Fiorentina's valuation.

La Viola are clearly confident in Kayode's long-term value. With a contract running until 2028, they've slapped a hefty €40 million price tag on the young defender. This valuation reflects their belief in his ability to become a star and highlights their determination to hold onto him.

Beyond Aston Villa, reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping a watchful eye on Kayode's situation. The North London club are looking for a replacement for Emerson Royal, who is the subject of reported interest from AC Milan, clubs in the Saudi Pro League, and Flamengo in Brazil.

Michael Kayode's rapid development has thrust him into the spotlight, and major European clubs are taking notice. Whether Aston Villa or Tottenham Hotspur will return with a more substantial offer, or if another club enters the bidding war, remains to be seen. One thing is certain; Fiorentina is prepared to hold firm and secure a significant transfer fee for their prized young asset.
