Fulham boss waxes lyrical about Iwobi’s growth and leadership in standout season

Fulham manager Marco Silva has showered praise on Alex Iwobi, hailing the Super Eagles midfielder's impressive growth and leadership at Fulham this season.

The Portuguese manager was full of admiration for the midfielder following Fulham's commanding 2-0 victory over a struggling Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson were on the scoresheet for Fulham, with Iwobi providing the assist for Wilson's goal in the 83rd minute.

The victory moved Fulham up to sixth in the Premier League standings, level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea. However, the Blues have a game in hand against Arsenal, who are also on 18 points, set to be played on Sunday.

Silva, who previously worked with Iwobi at Everton, believes the 28-year-old is reaching new heights and is poised for an even stronger campaign in the Premier League.

In the aftermath of Fulham's victory over Palace, Silva spoke to the press, highlighting Iwobi's growing influence and leadership as key to the club's strong start to the season.

Reflecting on Iwobi’s development since his arrival at the club, Silva, as per London News said : “For me, last season was the best season from him in the Premier League. I am sure he is going to be better this season. I brought him to Everton and then had the chance to have him here in London at Fulham. It was a moment for us to go.”

Silva also highlighted the former Arsenal man's increased responsibility, noting how the midfielder has taken on a more prominent role within the team: “From the first week of pre-season I felt he was going to have this season. He has taken more responsibility on his back and is helping the team.”

Iwobi has made 13 appearances for Silva's side across all competitions this season, starting in 11 of those matches. The Nigerian midfielder has scored two goals and provided two assists, averaging 74 minutes per game.
