“Unfair” – Henry Makinwa reacts to harsh criticism of Super Eagles star

Former Nigeria and Rayo Vallecano striker Henry Makinwa has labelled the criticism levelled at Super Eagles star Terem Moffi as ‘unfair’, Afrik Foot reports.

The 26-year-old was booed off at the Estadio Do Dragaio after Porto drew 1-1 against Nottingham Forest last Thursday.

FC Porto boss Francisco Farioli, speaking about the incident, admitted it wasn’t exactly a bad thing that the fans showed they demand a lot from their players.

“In the game against Nottingham Forest, there was a moment of some frustration, but he’s trying his best, working hard over the last few months.

“He’s on the right track, he’s already scored important goals for us, and others will come,” the Italian said.

Super Eagles: Henry Makinwa weighs in on Moffi’s fortunes

Makinwa spent most of his career in the Portuguese league and now holds a passport from that nation.

Quizzed about the impact of the boos on Terem Moffi, the 48-year-old said;

“It’s never fair for any athlete to be booed by fans. In reality, supporters are meant to inspire you to give more, reshape your game, and get better. So it disappointing,” in quotes revealed by Footy Africa.

It is normal for fans to demand more from players they believe can offer more. When you don’t perform well and the fans go quiet, it often means you’ve been written off.

“So, in a way, being booed can still be a positive sign. It shows they know you’re capable of more.

“It (boo) might affect younger players mentally, but maturity helps you channel that energy positively and improve. My advice to Moffi: eat well, sleep well, train harder, stay positive, and just do it,” the ex-Tianjin Teda forward concluded.
