Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho has faced intense fan backlash following an alleged confrontation with supporters after Sevilla’s recent 1-0 defeat to Leganes in La Liga.
The incident, reported by Estadio Deportivo, involved a tense exchange between the striker and a Sevilla fan in a parking area outside the stadium, an incident that has sparked new questions about his adjustment to Spanish football and his impact on Sevilla’s underwhelming season.
According to Alvaro Palmero, a Sevilla fan who attended the game, the altercation occurred when he and a fellow supporter, Carlos Romero, approached Iheanacho to challenge his perceived casual demeanor after the loss.

In a thread of posts on X, Palmero claimed that when he saw Iheanacho laughing with a friend and a club employee, he confronted him, asking pointedly, “What’s so funny after a loss?”
Palmero alleges that instead of ignoring the question, the Nigeria international turned to engage with the fans, and only the intervention of his companions prevented the situation from escalating further.
“We travelled almost 800 kilometres so that a guy who is not even in shape does not know how to shut up when it’s time, and show the balls he can’t show on the pitch. More respect for the only ones who defend the Sevilla FC shield properly.”
Palmero further alleged that one of Iheanacho’s companions insulted the fans in a foreign language, intensifying the tension.
This exchange underscores the growing frustration surrounding Iheanacho’s slow start in Spain. Since joining Sevilla, the former Leicester City forward has yet to score in La Liga, and his form has reflected Sevilla’s larger struggles.
With just 15 points from 13 games, Sevilla sits precariously at 13th in the standings, and Iheanacho’s inability to find the back of the net has only added to fan discontent.
