Iwobi declares: ‘We’re ready to challenge for a Champions League spot’

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has affirmed Fulham's ambition to compete for a Champions League spot next season, following a series of strong performances.

The Nigeria international excelled as Marco Silva’s side handed the Magpies their first defeat of the season with an impressive 3-1 victory at Craven Cottage on Saturday, where Iwobi provided an assist for Emile Smith Rowe's goal.

The victory propels Fulham into eighth place in the standings, with a total of eight points garnered from five matches.

With a strong belief in their capabilities, Iwobi insists that consistent results will not only elevate their standings but also establish their home ground as a true fortress where rivals fear to tread.

Iwobi champions Fulham's Champions League aspirations

In an interview with FFCTV, Iwobi expressed his hope to maintain the fine form that has underpinned Fulham's successful return to the top flight over the past two seasons.

“Our performances have been very good – I’d say apart from Ipswich – but it’s getting the results is the most important thing. It was a great performance and a great result. If we remain consistent, we’ll definitely finish better than we did last season. It sends a message to any other team that we can compete with anyone, teams who are going for the top four or the Champions’ League, that no one can come to our fortress and take any points from us.”

Fulham remain unbeaten in their last four matches and currently sit above two of England's traditional top six teams, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, while West Ham United trails by four points.
