Where has Alex Iwobi played his best Premier League football – Arsenal, Everton or Fulham?

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is about to reach a landmark that few Premier League players have achieved, Afrik-Foot reports.

If he plays for Fulham against Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage on Saturday, September 5, he will make his 100th league appearance for the club. That will give him 100 games for Arsenal, 123 for Everton and 100 for Fulham. Only Gareth Barry, Rory Delap, Gary Speed and James Milner have previously reached 100 appearances for three different Premier League clubs.

The numbers also make an interesting debate possible. Where has Iwobi, one of Nigeria’s most creative operators in Premier League history, actually played his best Premier League football? Arsenal gave him his first chance as a senior player. Everton gave him more responsibility and more games. Fulham have arguably produced the most productive version of the Nigerian midfielder, particularly in front of goal.

His career figures tell part of the story. Across his three clubs, Iwobi has 322 Premier League appearances, 35 goals and 39 assists. Arsenal account for 100 appearances, 11 goals and 17 assists, Everton 123 appearances, six goals and 11 assists, while Fulham have produced 99 appearances, 18 goals and 11 assists ahead of the Crystal Palace match.

Arsenal: The breakthrough years

Iwobi’s Arsenal story began when the club took him into its academy at age six. Arsene Wenger eventually handed him his senior debut in the League Cup at the start of the 2015-16 season. Four days later, he made his Premier League debut in a 3-0 victory over Swansea City.

He finished his Arsenal league career with 100 appearances, 11 goals and 17 assists. His strongest statistical season came in 2018-19, when he played 35 league matches, scored three goals and supplied six assists. In 2017-18, he started 22 of his 26 league appearances, scoring three times and providing five assists.

Iwobi was mainly an attacking player at Arsenal, operating from wide areas or behind the striker. He was still developing, but Wenger trusted him in a team competing for European places and domestic trophies.

He also left north London with silverware. Arsenal won the 2017 FA Cup while Iwobi was part of the squad, then defeated Chelsea on penalties in the 2017 Community Shield. He played 66 minutes in that Wembley victory.

Arsenal gave Iwobi his best trophy-winning environment and his strongest assist numbers. It was where his Premier League career was born, but he was not yet the central figure he would become elsewhere.

Everton: More games, less production

Everton paid about £34 million to sign Iwobi in August 2019. The move placed greater expectations on a player who had just finished his Arsenal career.

He made 123 Premier League appearances for Everton, more than at either of his other clubs, but his attacking numbers dropped sharply: six goals and 11 assists. That works out at one league goal every 20.5 appearances, compared with roughly one every 5.5 games at Fulham so far.

Yet Everton offers a strong argument about importance. Iwobi’s role changed as managers came and went, and he became increasingly useful as a hard-working midfielder rather than simply a winger. His 2022-23 campaign was particularly important. He started all 38 Premier League matches as Everton fought to avoid relegation.

Everton was Iwobi’s toughest test of consistency. He played more Premier League football there than anywhere else and became a trusted regular, but his goal output never matched his workload.

Fulham: The most complete Iwobi?

Fulham signed Iwobi from Everton on September 1, 2023, and the move has produced the best scoring period of his Premier League career.

He scored five league goals and made two assists in his first Fulham season. Then came 2024-25, when he reached a new level: nine goals and six assists in 38 Premier League appearances, with 35 starts. Those nine goals are the most he has scored in a single Premier League season.

Iwobi, a top earner at Craven Cottage, followed that with four goals and three assists in 29 league appearances in 2025-26. After two matches in the new campaign, he has 99 Premier League appearances for Fulham and is one game away from another piece of history.

Fulham have also given him a broader midfield role. Rather than being judged mainly as a young attacking prospect, Iwobi now carries greater responsibility in possession, creates chances and contributes goals.

Arsenal gave him trophies and the foundation. Everton gave him durability and responsibility. Fulham have produced his most productive and complete Premier League version. If the question is where Iwobi has played his best football, Fulham has the strongest case.
