Super Eagles: Where Alex Iwobi & Calvin Bassey rank among Fulham’s top earners

Published on by

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey have become important figures for both Fulham and Nigeria, but their places in the Premier League club’s wage structure are very different, Afrik-Foot reports.

According to Capology’s Fulham salary data, Iwobi is Fulham’s fourth-highest-paid player for the 2026-27 season. The Nigerian midfielder is listed on an estimated gross fixed salary of £80,000 per week, or £4.16 million per year, before bonuses. That puts him among the highest paid African stars in the English top flight.

Only Bernd Leno (£130,000 per week), Raúl Jiménez (£100,000) and Joachim Andersen (£90,000) are above Iwobi on the current list. Emile Smith Rowe is fifth on £70,000 per week, while Kenny Tete, Timothy Castagne, and Oscar Bobb are both listed at £65,000.

Bassey sits lower down the list, with the 26-year-old centre-back on an estimated £45,000 per week, equal to £2.34 million per year. That places him 15th among the players listed in the current Fulham wage table, ahead of Benjamin Lecomte, Jorge Cuenca, and Josh King.

Iwobi’s Fulham rise and Bassey’s defensive value

Iwobi joined Fulham from Everton in September 2023. He made an immediate push for a regular role under Marco Silva and has since developed into one of the club’s main attacking midfielders.

His first Fulham season produced five Premier League goals and two assists in 30 league appearances. His second was even stronger. Iwobi scored nine goals and supplied six assists in 38 Premier League games in 2024-25, giving him 15 goal contributions.

Bassey’s Fulham story is different. He arrived from Ajax on July 28, 2023 and has become a regular option at centre-back while also having the ability to play at left-back.

His Premier League numbers show his importance. He made 29 league appearances in 2023-24, 35 in 2024-25 and 30 in 2025-26. That gives him 94 Premier League appearances for Fulham. He also scored once in each of those three league seasons.

Bassey’s value is not measured mainly by goals. In 2025-26, he played 2,534 Premier League minutes, made 59 tackles and 22 interceptions, and helped Fulham finish the season 11th with 52 points.

Fulham’s own Fantasy Premier League review also showed how useful the pair were. Iwobi and Bassey both finished the 2025-26 season with 103 FPL points, the joint-highest total among Fulham’s Nigerian players.

Fulham’s Super Eagles stars

Iwobi’s Nigeria career has reached a major landmark. He made his Super Eagles debut against DR Congo in Visé, Belgium in October 2015, after representing England at youth level. On June 10, 2026, he won his 100th Nigeria cap in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal in Leiria. The NFF presented him with a framed shirt before kick-off to mark the milestone.

His international role has changed over the years. He started mainly as an attacking player but has also become a key midfielder who can carry the ball, connect the midfield to the attack and create chances.

His performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco was a strong example. Iwobi recorded 46 line-breaking passes, the most in the tournament while he also played a major role in Nigeria’s attacking build-up.

Bassey’s Super Eagles journey started later. He made his Nigeria debut against Ghana in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff in Kumasi in March 2022. He came on in the second half as Nigeria secured a 0-0 draw at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

He quickly became useful in several positions. Against Mexico in Dallas on May 28, 2022, Bassey played the full match and delivered the cross that led to Cyriel Dessers’ first Nigeria goal in the 2-1 defeat.

His role has grown from promising newcomer to established Super Eagles defender. CAF included Bassey among Nigeria’s key defenders at the 2025 AFCON, where he formed part of the central defensive group alongside Semi Ajayi.

The two Fulham players also started 2026 as regular members of Eric Chelle’s Nigeria setup. That gives the pair different but equally useful identities. Iwobi is the senior creator and midfield link, while Bassey provides power, pace and defensive cover. At Fulham, their salaries reflect different roles and market value. With Nigeria, their importance is less about money and more about what they bring to the team.
