As Tosin Adarabioyo’s international future remains in limbo, former Fulham teammate Alex Iwobi has urged him to consider representing the Super Eagles.
Despite featuring for various England youth teams, the 27-year-old remains eligible to switch his allegiance to Nigeria at the senior level—a decision that has sparked significant interest among Nigerian football officials and fans.
Iwobi, who made a similar switch from representing England to playing for Nigeria, has openly expressed his desire for Adarabioyo to join him in the Super Eagles setup.
Iwobi's hopes for a Super Eagles teammate in Adarabioyo
The 81-capped Super Eagles star, who has faced the center-back multiple times in the Premier League, believes Adarabioyo would be a significant addition to the Super Eagles' defensive unit, but acknowledged that the final decision ultimately lies with Adarabioyo himself.
“I've played against him; he's a great player and someone I would like to have in the team, of course, it's his decision at the end of the day.
“He told me he wanted stability. I've always told him Nigeria would love to have him and appreciate him.” Iwobi told Making of Champions.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had made previous attempts to secure Adarabioyo’s services for the national team, but thus far, the defender has opted not to commit.
However, the NFF seems content with taking a patient approach for now. Despite Adarabioyo’s high-profile move to Chelsea, the federation has decided not to push for his immediate inclusion following a previous snub under the leadership of former coach José Peseiro.
Reports suggest that Adarabioyo was approached by Peseiro last year but declined, citing he was “not ready” at the time.
