The UEFA Champions League final is the pinnacle of club football, a night where superstars etch their names in history. This year, the spotlight is not only on the players on the pitch but, also on a man who is actively behind the scenes.

Emeka Obasi is a Nigerian-born agent whose Elite Project Group (EPG) stable boasts a unique doubleheader. Jadon Sancho, a client of EPG, will be representing Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final.

Obasi's story, much like the careers of his clients, is one of defying expectations. Having grown up in Nigeria with a passion for football, he carved his path in England, navigating the complexities of the game's business side.

EPG, established in 2012, started by representing young, British players with immense potential. The football intermediary is believed to be the agent of the likes of Bukayo Saka, Romeo Lavia, Eddie Nketiah, and many other Anglo-Nigerians.

Over the years, Obasi's vision has broadened, recognizing the immense talent pool of his home country, be it the ones born abroad or within the shores of Nigeria.

Jadon Sancho's agent: Managing Nigerian internationals

The inclusion of Nigerian players in his stable marks a strategic shift. It's a move that capitalizes on the growing global recognition of Nigerian football, evident in the country's consistent qualification for the World Cup and the emergence of exciting young stars across various leagues.

Obasi's approach goes beyond simply representing players. He fosters a sense of community within EPG, creating a support system that transcends geographical boundaries. This is crucial for young players to adapt to the pressure and demands of professional European football.

There are quite a lot of Nigeria-eligible stars under the guidance of Obasi, but we are spotlighting five Super Eagles stars who are being represented by the Elite Project Group Limited.

  • Alex Iwobi: The experienced midfielder already has a fairly decorated career, having won the FA Cup and Community Shield with Arsenal and establishing himself as a key player for Fulham. Obasi's agency has helped the 28-year-old earn decent Premier League moves; from Arsenal to Everton and now Fulham.
  • Josh Maja: A once highly-rated striker, Maja's career has seen him shine in France with FC Girondins de Bordeaux, and in England with Sunderland and Stoke City. Now at West Bromwich Albion, he is hoping to help the Baggies secure promotion back to the Premier League.
  • Terem Moffi: This young forward is taking France by storm. His impressive displays for Lorient attracted interest from several clubs. Having joined a traditional side, OGC Nice, he has continued to blossom both in Europe and in the domestic league.

  • Joe Aribo: A powerhouse midfielder, Aribo was instrumental in Glasgow Rangers’ success during his time at the club (2019-2022), playing a key role as they won the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish Cup, also finishing as runners-up in the UEFA Europa League. He’s currently playing a part in Southampton’s bid to make a quick return to the English top-flight.
  • Ola Aina: A versatile defender comfortable in both full-back positions, Aina's experience in the Premier League with Chelsea and Fulham is invaluable. Aina is playing a huge role in keeping Nottingham Forest in the Premier League for at least one more season.

Obasi's strategy extends beyond immediate success. He understands the importance of long-term development, with a particular focus on education and financial planning. EPG ensures its players have the tools to manage their careers effectively, both on and off the pitch. This holistic approach fosters a sense of trust and loyalty, making EPG an attractive destination for young, aspiring footballers.
