La Liga side eyes Sadiq to revitalise struggling squad

Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq is generating interest from La Liga club Las Palmas, according to reports from the Spanish media.

Sadiq's tenure at Real Sociedad has been plagued by disappointment since his €20 million transfer from Almeria in 2022. His contract with the San Sebastian outfit ends in 2028.

Shortly after his debut season began, he sustained a cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for the entire campaign and causing him to miss 45 games. Despite this setback, Sadiq made a successful comeback last season, reintegrating himself into the squad.

He featured in 26 matches under Imanol Alguacil, starting 12 of those appearances. Over the course of the season, he averaged 43 minutes on the pitch, contributing three goals and one assist.

This season, Sadiq has made five La Liga appearances in nine matches, starting in two and averaging 37 minutes of play per game. However, he has yet to score or provide an assist.

Unless there is a significant turnaround in Sadiq's performance, it seems unlikely that his situation will improve by winter, fueling speculation about a potential departure.

Sadiq: The key to saving Las Palmas' season?

If the report by El Nuevo is anything to go by, and with Las Palmas languishing at the bottom of the La Liga table, the question arises: can Umar Sadiq be the key to saving their season?

Las Palmas are winless in their last nine matches, having accumulated only three points from three draws and nine losses; the need for a fresh spark is evident. Sadiq, known for his pace and goal-scoring ability, could provide the much-needed boost to an attack that has managed just seven goals while conceding 17.

The 27-year-old was recently linked with a potential move to Turkish club Beşiktaş. The Basque club are reportedly willing to sell him for a figure close to €10 million.

While this transfer would not recoup the full investment made, it would create room within the squad and reduce the wage bill, and also provide Sadiq with the opportunity to rediscover his best form in a new environment.
