Maduka Okoye: Four clubs that could sign Super Eagles goalkeeper this summer

Published on by

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has become the subject of intense transfer speculation ahead of the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian international has attracted interest from several clubs following an outstanding campaign for Udinese in the Italian Serie A.

Okoye established himself as one of Udinese’s most important players last season after returning from a suspension that kept him out of action earlier in the campaign.

He made 30 appearances across all competitions, kept 10 clean sheets, and played a crucial role as the Friuli-based club secured a top-half finish for the first time in 13 years.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, as he was voted Udinese’s Player of the Season, capping off a remarkable individual campaign.

Despite his importance to the club, Udinese appear resigned to losing the Nigerian goalkeeper this summer. With interest in his services continuing to grow, the Serie A side have reportedly placed a valuation of around €15 million on him and Afrik-Foot takes a look at four major clubs where Okoye could end up this summer.

1. Juventus

Italian heavyweights Juventus are eager to re-establish themselves as the dominant force in Italian football after several disappointing seasons and they see Okoye as a goalkeeper capable of strengthening their squad.

The Bianconeri are also considering moving on from Michele Di Gregorio, whose performances were viewed as inconsistent last season. Although the Italian is determined to fight for his place, Juventus believe Okoye would represent a significant upgrade between the posts.

The Turin giants have also been linked with Emiliano Martínez of Aston Villa. However, Okoye would be a far more affordable option. His experience in Serie A also gives him an advantage, as he would require little time to adapt to life in Turin.

2. Inter Milan

Another possible destination for Maduka Okoye is Inter Milan, who are also in the market for a new goalkeeper.

Inter are already planning for the future following the departure of Yann Sommer after the expiration of his contract and are looking for a long-term replacement.

The Nerazzurri have monitored Guglielmo Vicario for some time, but prising him away from Tottenham Hotspur could prove difficult. As a result, Okoye has emerged as an attractive and more attainable alternative.

A move to Inter would represent a major step forward in Okoye’s career, offering him the opportunity to compete in the UEFA Champions League and he would also be playing for a club that consistently challenges for domestic and European honours.

3. Beşiktaş

Turkish giants Beşiktaş are the latest club to register their interest in Maduka Okoye as they search for a new first-choice goalkeeper.

According to reports from Nicolò Schira, the Nigerian international is among the goalkeepers being considered by the Istanbul club.

A move to Beşiktaş would also offer Okoye European football and the opportunity to showcase his quality on a bigger stage. It would also see him join the growing list of Nigerian players plying their trade in the Turkish league.

Okoye’s playing style also perfectly suits Beşiktaş well, making him a strong fit for the club. However, he may prefer to remain in Italy rather than move to Turkey.

4. Napoli

Napoli are another club monitoring Okoye ahead of next season. However, any move to the former Serie A champions is expected to depend on the future of Vanja Milinković-Savić, whose own future remains uncertain.

The Serbian goalkeeper has also attracted interest from Beşiktaş and Napoli are expected to intensify their pursuit of Okoye only if Milinković-Savić leaves, whether to the Turkish club or another destination.

With Okoye continuing to impress and interest in his services growing steadily, the 26-year-old could be set for the next chapter of his career this summer.
