Unity Cup: Marseille star reveals why Super Eagles will be different in final against Jamaica

Marseille midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi has assured fans that they should expect a much sharper Super Eagles side when Nigeria faces Jamaica in the Unity Cup final on Saturday, Afrik-Foot reports.

Nnadi started for Nigeria in their opening Unity Cup fixture against Zimbabwe and put on a decent showing, playing the full 90 minutes as the Super Eagles claimed a 2-0 victory over their African counterparts.

Despite the win, however, Nigeria’s performance was a bit disjointed. The team struggled to retain possession as effectively as usual, enduring patches where they completely lost control of the game.

After the match, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s display. He noted that despite instructing his players to press high and maintain high intensity for the entire 90 minutes, he failed to see that executed on the pitch.

In fairness to the squad, the erratic performance was largely due to the influx of new invitees who had yet to gel. However, ahead of Saturday’s crucial final against Jamaica, Nnadi has promised a vastly improved performance.

Ahead of the final, Nnadi noted that fans will see a more cohesive Super Eagles side because the players have finally developed chemistry over multiple training sessions.

“We’ve had three training sessions. It’s difficult, but we try to understand each other as quick as we can because I think in high-level football, it doesn’t matter where the guys are coming from,” Nnadi told NFF Media. “We all just have to be a team and work together.

“The first training was hard, but I think by the second and third day, we got to understand each other. You could see in the game yesterday that we had a great connection, and it ended well.”

The last time the Super Eagles faced Jamaica, Nigeria emerged victorious via a tense penalty shootout.

Saturday’s clash promises to be just as tightly contested given the quality of both teams. Nnadi is expected to retain his spot in the starting lineup, eager to help Nigeria secure the trophy on a strong note.
