AC Milan battle to secure Nigeria U-20 star as European clubs circle

Italian giants, AC Milan find themselves at a crossroads regarding the future of 19-year-old Nigeria youth international Victor Eletu, whose contract expires on June 30, 2025.

The Lagos-born youngster, who joined Milan in 2018 from Prince Kazeem Eletu Academy in Lagos, is reportedly being monitored by clubs from France, Belgium, and Major League Soccer (MLS).

Eletu is undroppable in Milan’s Primavera side, playing a key role in their championship campaign. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Milan Futuro’s Serie C Under-23 coach, Daniele Bonera, keeping a close eye on his progress. The Nigerian youth international even earned a call-up for a Coppa Italia clash against Torres earlier this year.

Progressing through the ranks, he captained the Under-19 side during the 2022–23 season.

Despite suffering a meniscus injury in March 2024, Eletu has bounced back in remarkable fashion, showcasing his ability on the ball and drawing widespread interest across Europe and beyond.

Contract talks for the Nigeria U-20 star

According to Pianeta Milan, the Rossoneri recognize Victor Eletu’s potential but are taking a cautious approach to extending his contract.

While negotiations are reportedly imminent, the club appears hesitant to act immediately, opting instead to evaluate his performances over the coming months.

Eletu’s current deal, signed in December 2022, leaves him free to negotiate with other clubs starting in January. With interest growing from across Europe and the MLS, Milan must act quickly if they are to secure his future.

The midfielder was pivotal in Nigeria’s 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup run, helping the Flying Eagles defeat Italy and hosts Argentina en route to the quarterfinals.

Though he is yet to make his senior debut for AC Milan, Eletu’s potential is easy to see.
