‘Moses Simon will never prolific’ – Former Super Eagles coach warns suitors amid transfer scramble

As transfer whispers grow louder around Moses Simon, former Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has offered a firm piece of advice to the FC Nantes winger; stay put.

The former Levante UD forward is in the form of his life, clocking seven goals and nine assists in what is already his most productive season in France.

Those numbers have not gone unnoticed, with Everton and a handful of Turkish clubs reportedly circling.

However, Rohr, who managed Simon during their bronze-winning campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, believes the winger’s style is better tailored to the demands of French football.

Why staying put in France suits Moses Simon

“Moses Simon would thrive in France,” Rohr told Africa Foot. “He’s a very pleasant player to coach, who poses no problems. He’s hardworking and a good listener,

“When he arrives at a club, he puts himself at the service of the team, because his statistics prove that he’s a footballer who knows how to score and make others score.”

Simon’s contribution goes beyond just end product. His vertical running and ball-carrying have been central to Nantes’ attacking play, earning him a nomination for the Ligue 1 Goal of the Season as well as the Marc-Vivien Foé Award.

“His winger position won’t make him a player who can score 20 or 25 goals per season, but he’s invaluable to his team’s offensive performance,” Rohr added.

The 29-year-old recently etched his name in FC Nantes’ history by becoming the club’s all-time assist leader with 42, surpassing the late Emiliano Sala, who tragically passed away in a plane crash ahead of his move to Cardiff City.

With one year left on his contract, Simon’s next move could shape the twilight of his career. But Rohr’s position is clear; there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
