Ndidi scores as Leicester City inch closer to Championship title

Wilfred Ndidi was on target for Leicester City in the 2-1 home win against Cardiff on Saturday. The Nigerian international scored the opening goal for the Foxes in the 22nd minute to put the hosts ahead.

The hosts extended their lead after the interval to 2-0 in the 65th minute, courtesy of Jamie Vardy, who had missed a penalty in the first half.

Jed Wallace got a consolation for the visitors in the 76th minute. The win at the Kings Power Stadium takes the Foxes back to the summit of the league table.

They have amassed 91 points in 43 games, leading second-placed Ipswich Town by two points and third-placed Leeds United by four points, despite having played one game less.

How well has Ndidi fared for Leicester City this season?

The 27-year-old has been a key figure in Enzo Maresca's setup, directly contributing to 11 goals by scoring five and providing six assists in 32 games.

His significance to the team became evident when he sustained an injury during Leicester City's 2-0 victory over Cardiff City, sidelining him for over two months and causing him to miss the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024).

Ndidi was a a second-half substitute when he replaced Yunus Akgun in the 72nd minute and played the final 18 minutes of the game.

After the match, Maresca, in an interview with LFC.com said, “I’m very happy. We need him. Wilf is so important to us, so it’s good to have him back.”

As the end of his contract with Leicester City looms on June 30, speculation is rife about Ndidi's future at the club.
