Nigeria vs Brazil vs Georgia: 3 Onuachu goals could rewrite Trabzonspor history

Nigeria are three goals away from a piece of Trabzonspor history,Afrik-Foot reports.

That makes Paul Onuachu’s next finish worth more than a personal return to the scoresheet.

Nigerian players have scored 107 goals for Trabzonspor, only two behind Georgia’s 109. Brazil are also close on 105, setting up a three-country race for the most goals scored by players of a foreign nationality in the Turkish club’s history.

Al-Hilal-linked Onuachu can change the race quickly. One goal would take the African giants to 108. Two would make it 109, level with Georgia. Three would put Nigeria on 110 and give the country sole possession of first place.

The problem is that Onuachu has not scored in Trabzonspor’s first three matches of the new season. Still, the striker is the key figure in Nigeria’s attempt to catch Georgia.

The next chance comes on Thursday, when Trabzonspor visit Ferencváros in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League playoff. A goal in Budapest would therefore do two jobs at once. It would end Onuachu’s early-season drought and move the West African nation to within one goal of Georgia.

Nwakaeme leads, but Nigeria’s record is a team effort

The race is not only about Onuachu and Anthony Nwakaeme. Nwakaeme has scored 50 of Nigeria’s 107 goals for Trabzonspor. Onuachu has 43. That pair account for 93 goals, but three other Super Eagles starshave also pushed the total higher.

Ogenyi Eddy Onazi has seven goals, Isaac Promise has four and Chibuike Nwaiwu has three. Promise’s contribution dates back to his 2008-09 spell, including two Süper Lig goals in his first season with Trabzonspor.

Nwaiwu is the newest Nigerian name on the list. Trabzonspor signed the defender from Wolfsberger in January 2026, making him the club’s eighth Nigerian player. His three goals also prove how the total has grown across different generations and positions. Nwakaeme supplied the bulk of the goals from the wing. Onuachu has carried the striker role. Onazi and Nwaiwu have added goals from midfield and defence.

Onuachu’s own record gives Nigeria a realistic route to first place. The former Southampton man is Trabzonspor’s sixth Süper Lig top scorer after he scored 22 league goals last season.

Three more Onuachu goals would revive his start to the season and also put Nigeria at the top of Trabzonspor’s foreign-nationality scoring chart.
