‘Finidi isn’t leading Super Eagles to any destination’ – mixed reactions from Nigerians after Jollof Derby

Published on by

The 54th Jollof Derby took place on Friday March 22, as Nigeria's Super Eagles squared off against the Black Stars of Ghana in a friendly match.

The Super Eagles reigned supreme after 90 minutes, thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman.

Although Jordan Ayew pulled one back for Ghana, it wasn't enough for the Black Stars to avoid defeat.

With that in mind, fans did not hesitate to voice their opinions on X (formerly Twitter).

William Troost-Ekong tweeted two photos; the full-time result, alongside a photo of himself with a chef's hat, holding a plate of jollof rice.

The Super Eagles defender was not available for selection, as he ruptured his biceps femoris in his right leg and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Furthermore, X user @Oladapomikky1 opined that the Super Eagles would've won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) final against Ivory Coast if Finidi George had been in charge.

Of course, there are fans who aren't entirely convinced by Finidi's first game in charge. @MrJapola feels the Enyimba coach will not take the Eagles anywhere if he gets the full-time gig. He was also not pleased with Benjamin Tanimu starting instead of Kenneth Omeruo.

Meanwhile @Kayloaded1 was not impressed with Cyriel Dessers, as he suggested the Rangers forward should not be called up for Super Eagles matches in the future.

The Super Eagles also trolled their Ghanaian counterparts through their official X handle, tweeting: “Tonight, we are sure having the best Jollof for dinner as always ‘NAIJA JOLLOF’”
