‘Dessers should stay away from the team for life’ – Nigerians blast Super Eagles after loss to Mali

Published on by

Things did not go swimmingly for Nigeria's Super Eagles on Tuesday night, as they lost to the Eagles of Mali by two unanswered goals.

With all the buzz concerning the next Nigeria coach, this was a great opportunity for Finidi George to make a strong case for himself as to why he deserved to be the Super Eagles coach for the foreseeable future.

The Enyimba coach was chosen as Nigeria's interim coach for their March friendlies against Ghana and Mali, and while he impressed on his debut, – a 2-1 victory over Ghana's Black Stars – his second game in charge didn't turn out as well as he would've hoped.

Prior to Tuesday's clash, the Super Eagles' injury woes continued as Calvin Bassey and Frank Onyeka had to withdraw from the squad. It didn't help that Moses Simon picked up an injury on Tuesday night, and had to be replaced by Cyriel Dessers in the first half of Nigeria's clash with the Malians.

With that being said, Mali have successfully snapped an eight-match winless streak against the Super Eagles, a run that stretched all the way back to September 1975.

On that note, Nigerians reacted to the Super Eagles' loss on X (formerly Twitter).
