Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi faces an uncertain future at Nottingham Forest, with just one year remaining on his contract, Afrik-Foot reports.
The 28-year-old marksman joined the Tricky Trees four years ago, and his time there has been something of a roller-coaster.
During his first two seasons, he played an important role in helping the club avoid relegation from the Premier League, delivering high-level performances during the tail end of both campaigns.

However, his main challenge has been maintaining fitness. His recurring injury struggles ultimately cost him his position as the club’s first-choice striker, giving Chris Wood the opportunity to step in two seasons ago — an opportunity Wood capitalized on with consistent form.
Last season, Awoniyi started only three Premier League matches and was notably excluded from the club’s Europa League squad.
With Forest carrying a bloated squad, the club is expected to offload several players this summer.
Awoniyi is among those whose future at the City Ground hangs in the balance, particularly given the depth in the striker department. Asides from Awoniyi and Wood, the club currently has Igor Jesus, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Lorenzo Lucca.

Could a Transfer Shift the Tide for Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest?
A key update from A Spor suggests a development that could directly impact Awoniyi’s standing at the City Ground. This is as Turkish giants Besiktas are targeting Igor Jesus.
The Brazilian striker enjoyed a productive debut campaign with the Tricky Trees, recording 16 goals and five assists in 52 appearances. Despite many fans believing his form warranted a call-up to coach Carlo Ancelotti’s 2026 World Cup squad, he was ultimately overlooked.

Besiktas are eager to bolster their attack by landing the Brazilian, though a deal will be difficult to finalize, as Nottingham Forest may demand up to €40 million.
Should the move materialize, it could be a stroke of good fortune for Awoniyi. Reduced competition for places would likely secure his spot in the squad and provide him with more consistent playing time.
Under manager Vítor Pereira, Awoniyi has a chance to revitalize his career —provided he can remain injury-free and prove his worth on the pitch.

In the meantime, Nottingham Forest must navigate his contract situation carefully. With his deal expiring at the end of next season, they face the risk of losing him on a free transfer.
Given his pedigree, a player of Awoniyi’s caliber will undoubtedly attract significant interest from across Europe’s top five leagues should he become available.
