Former Besiktas forward Okan Koç has suggested Barcelona make a move for Victor Osimhen, expressing his belief that the Napoli-owned striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray, would be a perfect fit for the Catalan giants as they plan for life after Robert Lewandowski.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international has been in top form for Galatasaray this season, directly contributing to 17 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his success in Turkey, Osimhen's future is shrouded in speculation, largely due to a €75 million release clause embedded in his contract with Napoli.
Galatasaray secured Osimhen on a season-long loan in September, but the deal includes a break clause, allowing him to leave as early as January should the release clause be triggered.
However, the Istanbul side is unlikely to afford a permanent deal for the prolific striker, as their financial constraints and profile may not align with Osimhen’s ambitions.
Osimhen is fit to lace Lewandowski’s shoes
Koç believes Barcelona should waste no time in pursuing Osimhen. Speaking to Habersarikirmizi.com, he said, “If I were Barcelona, I would buy Osimhen tomorrow. If important clubs in Europe pay €75 million, the players want to leave. But if Osimhen stays, it means there was not enough demand from there.”
With Robert Lewandowski turning 37 next summer, Barcelona are actively identifying potential replacements for the Polish forward. Osimhen’s name has reportedly been added to a shortlist that includes Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Jonathan David, and Viktor Gyökeres.
A January move for Osimhen, however, appears unlikely. The 2023 African Footballer of the Year has reiterated his desire to complete the current season with Galatasaray.
Furthermore, Barcelona's well-documented financial challenges could complicate any mid-season transfer.
Chelsea on the other hand remain keen on Osimhen, having failed to agree on personal terms with the striker during the 2024 summer transfer window.
While Barcelona may admire Osimhen as a long-term solution, the Premier League side could yet re-enter the race, especially given their willingness to spend big in the transfer market.
