‘Onana watching Cameroon ruin his career’ – X marks the spot over line-up for Nigeria clash

Cameroon, Nigeria, and football fans in general were quick to jump on social media after Andre Onana was named on the Indomitable Lions bench once again, this time against the Super Eagles.

Onana missed Cameroon‘s opener at the Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea after staying with club side Manchester United, but was restored for the next game against Senegal.

He was restored to the starting XI against the reigning champions but shipped in three goals as Rigobert Song's side were thoroughly outplayed.

Onana was dropped to the bench for the final group game against Gambia – 3-2 win for the central Africans – which was not something the former Inter stopper appreciated.'

Song maintains there is no rift between him and Onana, and that he is simply rotating his keepers.

However, there was no rotation in goal for Cameroon when their starting XI was announced for the Round of 16 clash against the Super Eagles, with Onana once again on the bench.

As the news of Onana's second successive bench role broke, X (formerly Twitter) was abuzz with chatter.

Even Manchester United joined the discussion, asking why Onana is in Ivory Coast at all if he could still play for the club, though we aren't sure if they are serious or not…

Onana famously retired from international football after being left out of Cameroon's squad for the 2022 World Cup but later made himself available again.

Would it really be a surprise if he hung up his international gloves again?
