3 things Victor Osimhen and Rafael Leão can achieve together at Galatasaray

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will be a happy man at the moment as Rafael Leão arrived in Istanbul on Saturday from AC Milan with a clear message, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Portugal forward believes he and Osimhen can achieve major things together at Galatasaray, both in Türkiye and in Europe. His comments came after he landed at Atatürk Airport on Saturday, with hundreds of supporters waiting to welcome him.

Leão said he and Osimhen are already good friends. He also said he is excited to play alongside the Nigerian striker in the league and the UEFA Champions League.

“Osimhen is a great friend of mine. I think we can do great things together for Galatasaray. We will try to win the league and do our best in the Champions League. I can’t wait to get started,” Leão said as per Milan News.

That partnership now gives Galatasaray two players with pace, power and the ability to change a match in seconds.

The move comes after Galatasaray won the 2025-26 Süper Lig title with 77 points from 34 matches. The club finished three points ahead of Fenerbahçe and secured a fourth straight league title. Osimhen played a key role in that run, including two goals in the 4-2 win over Antalyaspor that confirmed the title.

Now the target changes. Leão joins a team that reached the Champions League round of 16 last season and will enter the 2026-27 league phase against some of Europe’s strongest clubs. Galatasaray’s first match is away to Sporting CP on September 9, followed by a home game against Barcelona on October 13.

What Osimhen and Leão can achieve together at Galatasaray

Win another Turkish title and add more silverware

Galatasaray have set a very high domestic standard. The 2025-26 championship was their 26th Süper Lig title and their fourth in a row. A fifth straight league crown would extend their current run and give Leão an immediate chance to enter club history.

The Türkiye Kupası is another target. Galatasaray won the 2025 Cup, beating Trabzonspor 3-0 in the final, but they were eliminated by Gençlerbirliği in the 2026 quarterfinals. Leão and Osimhen can help the club attack that trophy again while also pushing for another league and cup double.

Push Galatasaray deeper into the Champions League

This is where the partnership can gain global attention. Galatasaray reached the Champions League round of 16 in 2025-26 before Liverpool ended their run. Osimhen scored seven times in 10 Champions League appearances and finished the campaign with 16 goals in the competition across his career, making him Nigeria’s leading Champions League scorer.

The next challenge is tougher. Galatasaray face Sporting CP, Barcelona, Lille, Stuttgart, Aston Villa, AEK Athens, Feyenoord and Paris Saint-Germain in the new league phase. A strong Osimhen-Leão partnership could help Galatasaray move beyond the round of 16 and chase the quarterfinals or further.

Osimhen already knows how to win scoring prizes in Türkiye. He scored 26 Süper Lig goals in 2024-25 to finish as the league’s top scorer. He has managed 59 goals in 74 matches for Galatasaray across all competitions in his first two seasons in Türkiye.

Leão brings a different attacking weapon. The 27-year-old spent seven seasons at Milan and scored 80 goals in 291 official matches. He can attack from the left, carry the ball at speed and create space for a striker. That could give Osimhen more chances while also giving Leão more scoring opportunities.

Both players can also chase individual awards. Osimhen has already won the African Player of the Year award and the Serie A Golden Boot. Leão has regularly won Milan’s fan-voted MVP awards, including after his two-goal performance against Fiorentina in October 2025.

If the goals arrive and Galatasaray win trophies, the Osimhen-Leão partnership could become one of the main stories of the 2026-27 European season.
