Victor Osimhen: How Nigerian striker could line up with Leão and Leroy Sané

Victor Osimhen could be set for a new attacking partnership at Galatasaray following the club’s agreement to sign Portuguese winger Rafael Leão from AC Milan, Afrik-Foot reports.

According to the details reported by Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sport Germany, Galatasaray have reached a full agreement with Milan for Leão in a deal worth €45 million, including €43m guaranteed and €2m in bonuses, with the Italian club also retaining a 20% sell-on clause.

The move, once completed, would give Galatasaray one of the most formidable attacking units in the Turkish Süper Lig, with Leão joining Osimhen and Leroy Sané.

For Osimhen, the arrival of another elite-level wide attacker could be particularly significant.

The Nigerian striker has already demonstrated at Galatasaray that he is at his most dangerous when given space to attack and a steady supply of chances from wide areas.

Leão’s profile could complement that perfectly. The Portuguese winger is at his best when starting from the left, receiving the ball in space and driving towards goal.

His acceleration and ability to beat defenders one-on-one would give Galatasaray a natural outlet on the flank while also forcing opposition defences to stretch, creating more room centrally for Osimhen.

How could Galatasaray line up?

A 4-3-3 would arguably be the most straightforward way to accommodate all three attackers.

Leão could operate from the left, Osimhen through the middle and Sané from the right.

On paper, it is an extremely aggressive front three. Leão would provide ball-carrying and penetration from the left, while Sané could offer similar qualities from the opposite flank, with his pace and ability to cut inside adding another threat.

Osimhen would remain the reference point. His movement between centre-backs, ability to attack crosses and relentless runs behind the defensive line could become even more dangerous with two explosive wingers supplying him.

There is also another tactical possibility. Galatasaray could use a 4-2-3-1, with Osimhen leading the line and either Leão or Sané operating centrally behind him. However, that would require one of the two wingers to adapt to a more central role.

A 4-3-3 therefore appears more natural if the objective is to maximise all three players’ strengths.

Why Leão’s arrival could be huge for Osimhen

The biggest benefit for Osimhen may not simply be the number of chances he receives, but the variety of them.

Opponents would have to decide whether to protect against Leão’s runs from the left, Sané’s movement from the right or Osimhen attacking the space between the centre-backs.

Double-teaming Osimhen consequently becomes more difficult. If defenders narrow their shape to contain the Nigerian, Leão and Sané would have more room in the channels.

If they spread across the pitch to deal with the wingers, Osimhen could find himself with more space in the box.

That is the attraction of the potential trio. For Galatasaray, the challenge will be finding the right balance between their attacking ambition and defensive structure.

But if Okan Buruk can make it work, Osimhen could find himself at the centre of one of the most dangerous attacking combinations in Turkish football.

And with the Nigerian already established as Galatasaray’s focal point, Leão’s arrival could make his second chapter in Istanbul even more productive.
