Osimhen the last of a dying breed – Former Man Utd striker compares Napoli man to 6th-highest UCL scorer

Former France and Manchester United forward Louis Saha has urged the Old Trafford outfit to make a substantial investment in securing Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

One area where Erik ten Hag's team fell short and that impacted their title chase was the attacking department.

Despite boasting a formidable strike force, the Red Devils' offensive line was without challenges, with Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford, and Antony all struggling to find their scoring touch.

United subsequently scoured the transfer market for an ideal striker to bolster their attacking depth and were previously linked with a move for Victor Osimhen. However, the 25-year-old's €130 million release clause proved prohibitive, leading the English giants to withdraw their interest in the Nigerian forward.

In their quest to enhance their attack, United signed 23-year-old Joshua Zirkzee, who was a more affordable option compared to Osimhen. The Dutch striker joined for a fee slightly exceeding his £34 million release clause.

However, the 45-year-old Frenchman believes that Osimhen is the ideal striker to elevate United to new heights.

Saha champions Osimhen as perfect fit for United

In his latest remarks, Saha has urged his former club to pursue the Nigeria forward, whom he believes would be an ideal addition to the squad. He drew comparisons between Osimhen and legendary strikers David Trezeguet and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“My dream summer signing would be Victor Osimhen from Napoli; he would really fit the bill at Old Trafford,” Saha told Team Talk.

“If I was them I’d be doing everything to try and get him from Napoli; I’d love to see him in a United shirt next season.

“His attitude, his work rate, he is so good in front of goal. He has a belief and confidence that reminds me of David Trezeguet or Ruud van Nistelrooy, strikers who attract the ball to their feet.

“Proper strikers are dying but it’s easy to see that Osimhen is one of them.”

Saha played for Manchester United from 2004 to 2008, scoring 42 goals in 129 appearances. During his time at the club, he secured two Premier League titles, one Football League Cup, and one UEFA Champions League title.

However, it remains to be seen whether the United hierarchy will heed their former player's counsel and pursue Osimhen who, per recent reports, is on the cusp of a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
