Osimhen vs Solanke: 3 qualities that make Super Eagles star Tottenham’s better option

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has emerged as the latest transfer target for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a possible move this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 27-year-old has remained one of the biggest talking points of the transfer window, with his long-term future at Galatasaray still uncertain.

Osimhen has been linked with several of Europe’s biggest clubs throughout the summer. Manchester United and Arsenal have been identified as the leading Premier League contenders for his signature, with Chelsea ruled out due to two major reasons. 

However, recent reports have also linked Tottenham Hotspur with a surprise move, as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of next season and are hoping to avoid another bottom placed finish. 

Tottenham have already signed Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke and Andy Robertson, but they are still in the market for a centre forward despite having Dominic Solanke at the club.

Although Solanke remains an important option, Osimhen possesses several qualities that could make him a better fit to lead Tottenham’s attack.

Osimhen’s physicality suits Tottenham’s style

One of the Super Eagles striker’s strengths is his physical presence and relentless work rate. The Super Eagles striker presses aggressively from the front, using his pace and strengths to force defenders into mistakes. 

His willingness to chase every ball and unsettle opposing defenders makes him one of the most effective pressing forwards in world football.

The 27-year-old’s energy and commitment also allow him to contribute beyond goals, helping his team win possession high up the pitch and maintaining intensity throughout matches.

De Zerbi’s teams are known for their possession-based football, but they also rely heavily on coordinated pressing from the front. Osimhen’s ability to lead the press makes him well equipped to the intensity of the Premier League and also a better fit for that role than Solanke. 

Osimhen’s proven goalscoring record

Few strikers can match Osimhen’s consistency in front of goal. The Nigerian international has delivered wherever he has played, earning a reputation as one of the world’s best centre forwards through successful spells at Charleroi, Lille, Napoli and Galatasaray.

He has also produced consistently on the European stage. Last season, he scored seven goals in the UEFA Champions League for Galatasaray, helping them reach the Round of 16.

While Osimhen can occasionally miss chances, one of his biggest strengths is his movement. His intelligent positioning regularly puts him in dangerous goalscoring areas, allowing him to create and convert opportunities throughout a game.

Aerial dominance

Another major advantage Osimhen has over Solanke is his dominance in the air. The Super Eagles star has become a constant threat from crosses and set pieces and is capable of scoring headed goals while also contributing defensively by clearing dangerous deliveries inside his own penalty area.

With set pieces becoming increasingly important in the Premier League, Osimhen’s aerial ability could give Tottenham an extra attacking dimension. Compared to Solanke, he offers a greater threat from dead-ball situations and could become a key weapon in both boxes.

Negotiating with Galatasaray is likely to be Tottenham’s biggest challenge if they decide to pursue the deal. Spurs could also face strong competition from Manchester United and Arsenal, who have both been linked with the Nigerian striker.

However, if Galatasaray’s asking price is met and an agreement can be reached, Osimhen could finally fulfil his long-held ambition of playing in the Premier League.

For Tottenham, he could prove to be an excellent addition and a striker capable of taking their attack to another level.
