Osimhen: Super Eagles forward scores brace to earn Galatasaray vital away win

Victor Osimhen delivered a stellar performance on Sunday, scoring twice as Galatasaray secured an emphatic 5-1 victory over Kayserispor at the Kadir Has Şehir Stadyumu.

Osimhen, making his first start since returning from injury, opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a confidently taken penalty. The spot-kick was awarded after Ismail Jacobs' cross into the Kayserispor box struck the hand of defender Joseph Attamah.

Osimhen stepped up and expertly placed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Onurcan Piri, giving Galatasaray an early advantage.

The hosts levelled the score just 10 minutes later through Stéphane Bahoken, but their joy was short-lived. Barış Yılmaz restored Galatasaray's lead in the 29th minute with a well-taken goal, ensuring the visitors went into the halftime break with a 2-1 advantage.

Yunus Akgün extended Galatasaray's lead shortly after the restart and later turned provider for Victor Osimhen's second goal in the 71st minute, which marked Galatasaray's fourth of the match. Barış Yılmaz then added a fifth and his second of the night in the 87th minute, sealing an emphatic victory for the visitors.

The result secured all three points for Galatasaray and further solidified their position at the top of the table.

Osimhen delivered a remarkable display, showcasing his efficiency and influence on the pitch. Coming into the match with an expected goals (xG) of 1.14, he exceeded expectations by scoring twice from his three shots on target.

The Nigerian forward also registered one shot off target and one blocked effort, while completing a successful dribble attempt from his only try.

Osimhen's involvement was further highlighted by his three key passes and creation of two big chances, underscoring his role as a creative force for Galatasaray. Despite limited touches (25), he made his presence felt, though his passing accuracy stood at 39% (5 of 13 passes).

Defensively, he contributed with a clearance and won all two of his ground duels while securing two out of three aerial duels. Substituted in the 86th minute for Metehan Baltaci, Osimhen's performance was pivotal in Galatasaray's dominant 5-1 win.

Since his arrival at Galatasaray, Osimhen has been a prolific force, contributing to 16 goals in just 15 appearances. The 25-year-old has found the net 12 times and provided four assists.
