Sampdoria manager Andrea Pirlo has praised the abilities of young midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, but has sounded a note of caution to the on-loan Nigerian talent.
Akinsanmiro, 19, joined Sampdoria on loan from Inter Milan for the 2024/2025 season to gain valuable first-team experience.
The former Nigeria U-20 invitee has already made an impact, starting in both of Sampdoria’s matches so far, including their Serie B opener where they played out a 2-2 draw against Frosinone.

Pirlo’s advice for Ebenezer Akinsanmiro
Pirlo, a 2006 FIFA World Cup winner and Italian football legend, recognizes Akinsanmiro’s talent but has identified a critical flaw in his game.
The 19-year-old was one of his side's standout performers, completing 85 per cent of his 46 total passes, four of six dribbles, and winning eight of his 13 duels. He also excelled with his distribution, completing all three of his long passes.
The Sampdoria coach however stated that his tendency to take too many touches could work against him at this level, and implore the Beyond Limits FA youth product to play at a quicker tempo.
“Akinsanmiro has qualities, but sometimes he likes to hold the ball too much,” Pirlo commented.
On the whole, the youngster lost possession 11 times during the game, suggesting some truth to his manager's assessment.
“If you hold the ball too much with strong players in Serie B, you can’t afford it. He needs to be more direct.”
Despite this criticism, Pirlo’s decision to start Ebenezer Akinsanmiro in both of Sampdoria’s opening games indicates his faith in the young midfielder’s potential.
