Roma eye €10m-rated David Moses: What we know about the transfer

Published on by

Italian Serie A giants Roma are eyeing Nigerian midfielder David Moses as a potential midfield signing in the winter or next summer’s transfer window.

Moses has made an impact at Slavia Prague since joining the Czech giants from Karvina last year. The 22-year-old midfielder has been a regular starter at the club, featuring prominently in the league and the UEFA Champions League.

Moses is not known for being a showboater or for standout creativity in midfield. However, his stock in trade is his ability to control and dictate the tempo. The Slavia Prague man possesses a remarkable work rate, strong ball-carrying ability, and excellent ball control.

He can also play multiple positions, operating comfortably as a central midfielder, a right-back, or a right midfielder. Whenever he is on the pitch, he covers a lot of ground and contributes significantly in defense.

According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Moses is drawing interest from Roma. The Serie A side is looking to add quality to its midfield, especially given the possibility of losing key stars such as Manu Koné and Niccolò Pisilli.

Over the past two years, Roma have excelled at scouting young, talented players, allowing them to assemble a very competitive squad. Koné, their marquee midfielder, arrived from Borussia Mönchengladbach two seasons ago for €18 million, and as of last summer, top Premier League clubs were actively pursuing him.

Roma are not the only club monitoring Moses. French Ligue 1 side Monaco are also in the mix to scoop up the young Nigerian, as they risk losing star midfielder Lamine Camara in January or next summer.

For now, however, Roma appear to be the more likely destination for Moses.

The 22-year-old is valued at €10 million on Transfermarkt. Slavia Prague have a track record of selling talent, so the expectation is that they would be open to a deal if their valuation is met. However, the Nigerian midfielder still has three years remaining on his contract, meaning Slavia Prague could hold out for a higher fee.

Roma may not act immediately this January; they are more likely to wait until next summer’s transfer window before making a formal approach.
