Why Osimhen will escape punishment after Galatasaray vs Fenerbahçe brawl

Published on by

Victor Osimhen is unlikely to face disciplinary action after Galatasaray’s 2-1 win over Fenerbahçe descended into a brawl at RAMS Park on Monday.

The Nigerian striker scored both goals for Galatasaray, but the derby ended in ugly scenes as players from both teams clashed after the final whistle.

The Turkish Football Federation’s (TFF) Professional Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) is reviewing the incident, with several players facing possible suspensions.

Osimhen is not expected to face punishment because he did not take part in the fighting.

Osimhen avoids post-match fight

Osimhen, who continued his climb up the Galatasaray goal chart, stayed out of the main confrontation after the final whistle. The former Napoli and Lille ace was not reported to have been involved in any physical altercation.

Several other players could face disciplinary action over their conduct.

Galatasaray defender Abdülkerim Bardakcı and Fenerbahçe defender Archie Brown were sent off after their confrontation. Roland Sallai and Kerem Aktürkoğlu, who had a heated exchange before the brawl spread, are also under scrutiny.

Mattéo Guendouzi and Mert Hakan Yandaş have also been linked to the incident.

The TFF president has warned that those responsible could face severe punishment, with fines alone unlikely to be enough for players found to have started or escalated the violence.

Why Osimhen is unlikely to face a ban

The TFF’s disciplinary process takes account of referee reports, match officials’ assessments and evidence of misconduct.

Osimhen was not sent off or booked after the final whistle, and there is no indication that he was involved in the brawl. Unless further evidence links him to the incident, he is unlikely to face a sanction.

That means the Super Eagles striker, personally attacked by Fenerbahçe manager Ismail Kartal, should be available for Galatasaray’s next Süper Lig match against Konyaspor.

After scoring twice to help Galatasaray beat their biggest rivals, Osimhen looks set to avoid the disciplinary trouble facing several players involved in the post-match fight.

Galatasaray currently sit top of the Super Lig table, with a two-point advantage over second-placed Amed SK.
