Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq finally ended a 10-month goal drought on Tuesday night, scoring in Valencia's 2-0 victory over Ourense CF in the Copa del Rey Round of 16.
The 27-year-old, on loan from Real Sociedad, registered his first goal for Los Che in just his third appearance, offering hope to a Valencia side desperate for attacking reinforcements.
Sadiq's strike, a composed right-footed finish into the top right corner, came in the 78th minute, securing Valencia's passage to the quarter-finals. The match also featured an own goal from Fran Carmona, which had given Valencia the lead early in the second half.
Mixed night in front of goal for Sadiq
Sadiq’s evening wasn’t without its frustrations. In the 9th minute, he missed a free header after a pinpoint cross from Jesús Vázquez, and his header in the 42nd minute was saved by the goalkeeper.
The striker’s best effort before scoring came in the 64th minute, when his powerful strike from outside the box rattled the crossbar.
Despite the missed chances, Sadiq displayed his trademark physicality and technical ability. Across his 88 minutes on the pitch, he managed two shots on target, attempted six dribbles (completing two), and won three of 11 ground duels. However, his struggles in aerial battles were evident, failing to win any of his five contests.

Sadiq’s move to Valencia marks a critical moment in his career. After scoring just once in 31 games for Real Sociedad, his early contributions for Los Che signal a potential resurgence.
With Valencia battling for consistency in attack, the Nigerian striker's presence in the final third could prove pivotal as the club navigates the latter stages of the Copa del Rey and La Liga.
