“We will fight” – Sevilla star Akor Adams warns Real Betis ahead of Derbi Sevillano

Sevilla striker Akor Adams has stated that he and his teammates will be at their best when they face Real Betis in the Derbi Sevillano on Sunday, Afrik-Foot reports.

Sevilla and Betis are set to lock horns in the second installment of the Seville derby at the Estadio de la Cartuja.

This fixture is one of the most fiery in Spain, as the two Seville-based clubs share a deep-seated rivalry. While the first leg at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan ended in a 2-0 victory for Betis, Sevilla will be determined to claim their pound of flesh in the return fixture.

Currently, 13 points and seven places separate the two sides in the standings. Real Betis sits 5th with 42 points, while Los Nervionenses occupy 12th place with 29 points.

Despite the gap, three points would be invaluable for either side; a victory for Sevilla would significantly ease relegation fears, while a win for Los Verdiblancos would move them closer to securing European football.

Having joined Sevilla last year, Adams has already experienced the intensity of this rivalry. To him, the match represents far more than just three points—it is about pride and bragging rights.

The Nigerian forward has promised that he and his teammates will put up a fierce fight to ensure they emerge victorious.

”For the people of Seville and the players, this is more than just a game, even if it ultimately comes down to three points,” Adams told Sporty TV.

“There is emotion, passion, and a profound sense of pride for the winner. It feels like you own the city if you win.

“As players, we understand the responsibility and the privilege of competing in one of the biggest derbies in Europe. It comes with a ‘good’ pressure, knowing you can give the fans so much joy.

“For me, it is the biggest derby I have played in so far. We will fight and give our absolute best to ensure we don’t lose.”

Can Akor Adams End His Goal Drought At Betis?

Akor Adams was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and he initially carried that momentum back to Sevilla, netting three goals in his first two appearances after the tournament.

However, his scoring form has since cooled, with the striker contributing only one assist in his last four outings for Los Nervionenses.

Before last week’s match against Getafe, the Super Eagles striker was beginning to draw criticism for his barren spell. But he responded by delivering the vital assist for Djibril Sow’s winning goal, securing a crucial 1-0 victory.

Nevertheless, Adams will be desperate to find the back of the net again. He is well aware that coach Matias Almeyda has other potent attacking options, such as Alexis Sanchez and Peque, meaning he must deliver goals to secure his starting spot.

If he fails to score on Sunday, it will mark his fifth consecutive game without a goal. With the pressure mounting, Adams will be hoping the tide turns in his favor during the derby.
