Super Eagles winger Moses Simon continues to make waves in Ligue 1, as his stunning goal against Rennes has been nominated for the Goal of the Month award for December-January.

Simon’s solo effort in Nantes’ 1-0 victory over Rennes sees him competing against top contenders, including Georges Mikautadze (Lyon), Lucas Stassin (Saint-Étienne), Augustine Boakye (Saint-Étienne), and Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco).

In the Ligue 1 game against Rennes in December 2024 and with the game locked at 0-0 with a few minutes left, the 29-year-old produced a moment of brilliance to seal all three points for Nantes.

Receiving a pass on the left flank, Simon glided past two defenders with ease, before executing a deft body swerve to bypass two more Rennes defenders in the box.

With space created, he unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

The goal quickly went viral on social media, with fans and pundits hailing its individual brilliance and clinical execution.

Simon’s stellar season continues

Beyond his goal-scoring prowess, Simon has also been one of Ligue 1’s top playmakers. As of Matchday 20, he sits second in the assist rankings with six assists, behind João Neves (PSG) and Ludovic Blas (Rennes) who are both on seven.

He also remains ahead of stars like Dilane Bakwa (Strasbourg), Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco), and Achraf Hakimi (PSG) who have five assists each

Despite FC Nantes’ struggles this season (currently 14th on the table), Simon has been one of their standout performers, contributing five goals and six assists in 18 matches.

With his latest nomination, the former Levante winger continues to prove why he remains one of Nigeria’s most consistent players in Europe.
