Turkish Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor are on the verge of securing a permanent deal for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu from Southampton.
According to Turkish outlet Yomra Sonhaber Gazette, the newly-promoted Premier League side have softened their stance, lowering their asking price for the Nigeria international to €7 million.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a prolific loan spell at the Şenol Güneş Papara Park last season, netting 17 goals in 24 games.
Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan and manager Abdullah Avcı have been keen to retain Onuachu's services beyond the loan deal, but the Saints initially demanded a €9 million fee for the towering forward.
With the picture now having changed, the Karadeniz Fırtınası are expected to lodge a final bid in the coming days, with the transfer seen as a mere formality.
Southampton entertaining Onuachu interest from the Gulf
While the Onuachu deal progresses, Trabzonspor remain active in the transfer market.
The club are keen to bolster their attacking options and have been linked with former Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst, either as an alternative to the former Genk man or in addition. Manager Abdullah Avcı is determined to build a squad capable of challenging Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe for the Super Lig title.
Onuachu has also been linked with a transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al-Okhdood, with reports further indicating that representatives from the English club have engaged in discussions with Al-Okhdood officials regarding terms for the striker's transfer.
