Super Eagles hopeful David Moses wanted by Monaco and Roma – Where should he go?

Published on by

David Moses could be the next Nigerian talent heading to one of Europe’s top five leagues following his accelerated development in the Czech Republic.

AS Monaco and AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing Nigerian midfielder David Moses from Slavia Prague in January.

Moses is only gradually establishing himself as a mainstay at Czech Republic champions Slavia Prague but he has done enough to attract the attention of two of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Why the interest in David Moses

Monaco are said to be big admirers of the versatile 22-year-old midfielder, while Roma have added the midfielder to their shortlist ahead of the winter transfer window.

Moses is valued at around €10 million and is under contract with Slavia Prague until June 2029. Reports suggest the Czech club could let him leave in January if a suitable offer arrives.

The Nigerian has made eight appearances in all competitions this season, providing one assist. The youngster has been applauded for his ability to carry the ball forward, cover ground and operate in different midfield roles.

Monaco and Roma are not the only parties who have caught the David Moses bug, as Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is also set to integrate the young talent into the senior national team set up.

A move to either side would give Moses the chance to test himself in one of Europe’s major leagues. However, finding a club where he can play regularly will be crucial to his development.

Why Monaco could suit David Moses

Monaco could be a good fit for Moses because of the pace and physical demands of the French Ligue 1. His energy, movement and ability to drive forward with the ball could suit the French side’s style of play.

The club also has a history of recruiting young players and giving them opportunities to establish themselves in the first team. That could appeal to Moses as he looks to take the next step in his career.

However, he would still have to earn his place in the team. Moving to Monaco would not automatically guarantee regular appearances, and he would need time to settle into a new league.

Why Roma could accelerate his development

Gasperini expects his midfielders to press opponents, cover large areas of the pitch and contribute to attacks. Moses’ energy and ability on the ball could make him a good fit for those demands.

Playing in Italy could also help him improve his tactical awareness, but the pressure to deliver results could make it harder to secure a regular place, particularly if he struggles to settle quickly after a January move.

Verdict: Monaco or Roma?

Monaco could offer Moses a more gradual introduction to a major European league. Roma, on the other hand, would give him the chance to work under Gasperini and face the tactical demands of Italian football.

The deciding factor should be the role each club offers him and his chances of playing regularly. Moses would be smart to chose a club where he can secure consistent first-team football which would help his development and boost his chances for a Super Eagles call-up.
