Super Eagles: Where does Akinsanmiro rank among Monza’s most expensive signings?

Newly promoted Serie A side Monza have agreed a deal with champions Inter Milan to sign Super Eagles midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro ahead of the 2026-27 season, Afrik-Foot reports.

Akinsanmiro’s future had been uncertain since the end of last season after Pisa, where he spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan, decided against activating their option to sign him permanently.

However, the 21-year-old has now secured the next step in his career after agreeing a long-term contract with Monza. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the newly promoted club will pay up to €7.5 million, including add-ons, while Inter Milan will retain a 10% sell-on clause in the agreement.

Monza’s willingness to spend that amount shows how highly they rate the Super Eagles midfielder and it also places him among the club’s most expensive signings ever.

Unlike Italy’s traditional heavyweights, Monza are still establishing themselves at the top level and have only just returned to Serie A after earning promotion for next season.

The €7.5 million deal puts Akinsanmiro comfortably inside the club’s top five biggest signings of all time. But where exactly does he rank?

Monza’s record signing remains Italian midfielder Matteo Pessina, who joined permanently from Atalanta in 2023 for around €12 million after initially arriving on loan. He currently captains the club.

Second on the list is Andrea Colpani, whose move from Atalanta in 2022 cost around €11 million. Italian striker Andrea Petagna sits third after joining from Napoli in a deal worth approximately €9.7 million in 2023.

Gianluca Caprari occupies fourth place following his €8 million move from Hellas Verona in 2023, although he has since left the club to join Padova. Akinsanmiro’s €7.5 million transfer places him fifth on Monza’s all-time list of most expensive signings.

His move to Monza now offers him the stability he has been looking for after two consecutive loan spells. Instead of another temporary switch, he now has the chance to build his future at one club.

The Super Eagles midfielder’s energy, work rate and ability to play in different positions in the midfielder should make him an important player for Monza.
