Super Eagles: One major hurdle standing between Anthony Dennis and Goztepe exit

Super Eagles target Anthony Dennis continues to face uncertainty over his future this summer as he looks to leave Turkish side Goztepe ahead of the start of new season, Afrik-Foot reports.

Dennis has expressed a desire to leave Goztepe this summer, with his future still up in the air as interest continues to grow from several clubs across Europe.

The Super Eagles hopeful initially joined Goztepe’s youth team in 2023 before earning promotion to the first team in 2024 and has since become an important part of the team.

Dennis played a key role as Goztepe secured promotion to the Turkish Super Lig ahead of the 2024-25 season and has remained an important player since then. The Nigerian midfielder has made 63 appearances in the Turkish top flight over the last two seasons, showing just how important he has become to the club.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of next summer, there is growing belief that this could be the right time for Dennis to leave and for Goztepe to recoup a transfer fee from his departure.

Anthony Dennis: What is blocking Super Eagles hopeful’s departure from Goztepe?

The Super Eagles target has attracted interest from several clubs this summer, with newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City and Turkish giants Galatasaray and Trabzonspor among the clubs showing the strongest interest in signing him.

However, one major issue is currently standing in the way of his departure from Goztepe: the club’s asking price.

According to Footy-Africa, Goztepe are demanding a fee of around €9 million for the midfielder. Coventry City are reportedly unwilling to pay that amount, especially with Dennis having just one year remaining on his contract.

The English club could instead wait until next summer and sign the Super Eagles hopeful for free if they fail to reach an agreement with Goztepe now.

Goztepe, on the other hand, are also willing to allow Dennis to leave this summer. However, they do not want to let one of their key players walk away for a low fee, particularly when there is still an opportunity to make money from his departure, which has now left the two sides at a standstill.

The clubs that have shown strong interest especially Coventry City do not want to meet Goztepe’s valuation, while the Turkish club has so far shown little willingness to lower its demands.

As a result, the transfer cannot move forward unless both sides can reach a compromise over the fee.

Dennis has also not featured for Goztepe during pre-season so far, which could be another indication that his future remains uncertain and that a move could still happen before the new season begins.

The Turkish club will have to soften its stance and reduce its asking price before the Super Eagles target can secure a move away this summer.

Otherwise, the Dennis could remain at Goztepe for the final year of his contract before leaving the club as a free agent next summer.
