Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped to sixth in Africa and 31st in the world in FIFA’s live men’s ranking, Afrik-Foot reports.
The Super Eagles have surrendered their place among the continent’s top five after a bruising international window.
The live standings put Morocco fifth in the world, Senegal 19th, Egypt 24th, Côte d’Ivoire 28th, Algeria 30th and Nigeria 31st.
Morocco set the pace
Morocco sit five places ahead of Nigeria on the continent after another perfect start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. The Atlas Lions defeated Gabon 2-0 in Rabat on 25 September before beating Lesotho by the same scoreline four days later.

Their rise has also been powered by a strong World Cup campaign. Morocco went unbeaten in Group C, drawing 1-1 with Brazil before victories over Scotland and Haiti sent them into the knockout phase.
Senegal and Egypt keep Nigeria’s Super Eagles at bay
Senegal occupy second place in Africa after reaching the World Cup knockout stage. They recovered from defeats by France and Norway to hammer Iraq 5-0, before Belgium edged them 3-2 after extra time in Seattle.
Egypt are third after reaching the World Cup knockout stage and then producing a 5-0 victory over South Sudan in AFCON qualifying. Their campaign also includes a goalless draw with Angola.
Côte d’Ivoire and Algeria complete the climb
Côte d’Ivoire’s Elephants are fourth after reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in the country’s history. They beat Ecuador 1-0, lost narrowly to Germany 2-1 and defeated Curaçao 2-0 before Norway ended their run. They then opened AFCON qualifying with wins over Ghana and Somalia.
Algeria sit fifth after reaching the World Cup knockout phase. They beat Jordan 2-1, drew Austria 3-3 and later lost **2-0 to Switzerland. In AFCON qualifying, they beat Zambia 3-1 before drawing 2-2 away to Burundi.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing the direct ticket to South Africa and the playoff spot to DR Congo.
The three-time African champions began the AFCON window with a 2-1 comeback win against Madagascar, but the mood changed dramatically in Bissau when Guinea-Bissau inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Eric Chelle’s side. That result helped push the Super Eagles below Algeria in the live table.
Nigeria could regain some lost momentum with a win against Russia in an international friendly on Tuesday, October 6.
Note: FIFA’s official page cautions that live movements are provisional, with the next official ranking scheduled for 7 October.
