Arsenal have reportedly opened contract negotiations with Super Eagles prospect Ethan Nwaneri following his stellar performances this season.
The teenage sensation has rapidly risen through the ranks and delivered a standout display during Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, where he netted his maiden Premier League goal just minutes after coming off the bench.
At 17 years and 247 days old, Nwaneri’s goal made him the youngest Premier League scorer of Nigerian descent, surpassing Victor Anichebe, who achieved the feat at 18 years and 14 days for Everton in 2006.
The goal also cemented him as the second-youngest player to score for Arsenal in the Premier League, showcasing the prodigy’s maturity on the big stage.
Nwaneri’s impressive form and Arsenal’s long-term vision
Nwaneri’s season so far has been nothing short of remarkable. In nine appearances across all competitions, the teenager has already netted four goals. His ability to consistently influence games has caught the attention of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and rival clubs alike.
Speaking about Arsenal’s intentions, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the club’s efforts to tie the Super Eagles target down to a new contract. “Arsenal have started concrete conversations for Ethan Nwaneri's contract. They want to give him an important deal in the coming months,” Romano revealed.
While Arsenal’s front-office changes, including Edu Gasper’s departure, could impact the timing of the offer, Romano emphasized the club’s commitment to building around Nwaneri.
“Let’s see how much time it will take. Arsenal are searching for a new director, so this could affect the timing but not the strategy. Ethan Nwaneri is seen as a talent for both the present and the future,” Romano added.
Nwaneri’s relationship with Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal staff remains strong, further fueling optimism that the Gunners will retain one of their most promising talents for years to come.
