Super Eagles team news vs Guinea-Bissau: 3 changes Chelle could make in Nigeria’s XI

Super Eagles claimed a fine 2-1 win over Madagascar on Friday and the former African champions will be keen to make it two in two when they tackle Guinea-Bissau in Bissau, Afrik-Foot reports.

Eric Chelle has a selection puzzle to solve when Nigeria face the Djurtus in Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Franco-Malian tactician could be tempted to make at least three changes to the team that started the 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles travel to Bissau joint-top of Group L after George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor overturned Ehsan Kari’s 16th-minute opener in Uyo. Guinea-Bissau also opened with victory, beating Tanzania 2-0 in Zanzibar.

With Tanzania already guaranteed a place at the 2027 finals as co-hosts, only one qualifying place is available from Group L, adding considerable weight to Tuesday’s contest.

Super Eagles: Possible Chelle changes in Nigeria XI

Stanley Nwabali keeps Maduka Okoye out

Maduka Okoye’s delayed arrival in camp could cost him another opportunity to reclaim the No.1 shirt. The Udinese goalkeeper was penned down to be the first-choice for these qualifiers while Nwabali takes charge of the Russia friendly in October.

However, Okoye could not build on his excellent performances against Poland and Portugal in the summer, returning the initiative to Nwabali.

Nwabali impressed against Madagascar despite not keeping a clean sheet and it could now be difficult to displace him from the starting lineup.

Bright Osayi-Samuel could replace Ola Aina

Right-back is another position where Chelle could shuffle his pack.

Bright Osayi-Samuel replaced Ola Aina in the second half of Nigeria’s win in Uyo, in what could have been a tactical switch rather than an injury concern for the Nottingham Forest defender.

Osayi-Samuel showed at AFCON 2025 that he is more than capable of stepping in at right-back, in a situation when Aina is unavailable.

However, when fit, Aina is the Super Eagles’ most experienced right fullback and his defensive qualities could keep him in the XI against Guinea-Bissau.

Osayi-Samuel’s inclusion, though, would give Nigeria a fresh attacking outlet from the flank as the Super Eagles search for a second consecutive qualifying victory.

Moses Usor’s dream debut earns him a start

Usor has made a compelling case in barely 45 minutes of international football.

The LASK forward came off the bench against Madagascar and scored Nigeria’s winner after the hour, joining Ilenikhena as a debutant goalscorer in the 2-1 victory.

Usor may have done enough to replace Samuel Chukwueze on the right side of Chelle’s attack.

Moses Simon could replace Akor Adams

The final possible change comes in attack, where Moses Simon could enter the XI at Akor Adams’ expense.

Simon added energy and drive to the Super Eagles attack after coming off the bench against Madagascar on his 100th appearance for Nigeria.

Adams looked off the pace for the most part in Uyo and Chelle could spare the Venezia forward another embarrassing outing.

The Super Eagles coach, in the absence of star forward, Victor Osimhen, needs to build an attack that relentlessly asks questions of the Djurtus’ defence from start to finish. On the evidence of his second-half display on Friday, that could play in Simon’s favour.
