Super Eagles: Key obstacle blocking Terem Moffi’s transfer to Hull City

Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi continues to face uncertainty over his future at OGC Nice this summer, with doubts over where he will play ahead of next season, Afrik-Foot reports.

Moffi returned to the French club earlier this summer after his loan spell at Portuguese champions Porto ended after just six months. The Super Eagles forward joined Porto in January but the club decided against exercising the option to sign him permanently.

The 27-year-old last played for Nice in November 2025, when they suffered a 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to his former club Lorient. However, it was the events after that game that led to his absence from the team.

Moffi was assaulted by a section of Nice’s ultras alongside some of his teammates. Following the incident, he was placed on leave and eventually left the club in January to join Porto on loan.

Although Porto did not make his move permanent, it has been widely expected that the Super Eagles forward will leave Nice this summer as he looks for a fresh start ahead of the new season.

Hull City unlikely to pursue Moffi deal

Moffi has been linked with a move to Hull City in recent weeks, but a transfer to the English club now appears unlikely.

According to Footy-Africa, Hull City are not actively pushing to sign the Super Eagles forward on a permanent deal, despite having shown some interest in him.

That lack of serious pursuit has made a move to the Premier League side very unlikely at this stage of the summer. Instead, Hull City are monitoring another Nigerian forward, Femi Azeez, who they believe could strengthen their attack ahead of next season.

Azeez’s versatility is understood to be one of the qualities that has attracted Hull City, with the club reportedly ready to match Millwall’s valuation to get a deal done this summer.

Where could the Super Eagles star end up?

With Hull City seemingly out of the picture, Moffi’s most realistic options currently appear to be Bundesliga side Hamburg and Turkish giants Besiktas.

Hamburger SV are keen to add more quality to their squad ahead of next season as they look to improve their performance in the Bundesliga, and Moffi’s experience could make him an attractive option.

The Nigerian’s goalscoring record at previous clubs also works in his favour, with his ability to find the net likely to make him a strong candidate for Hamburg’s attack.

Besiktas are another possible destination for the Super Eagles forward. The Turkish club are looking to strengthen their squad as they aim to compete for trophies next season and challenge their rivals for the Super Lig title. Moffi’s experience and goalscoring ability could make him a useful addition to their attack.

The Nigerian is keen to leave Nice and find a club where he can play regularly, while his availability could make him an attractive option for several interested teams.

With only a few weeks left before the end of the summer transfer window, a decision on his future is expected soon.

For now, however, Hull City does not appear to be a realistic destination, with the club not actively pursuing a deal. That leaves Hamburg and Besiktas as the two most viable options for Moffi as he looks to secure his next move.
