Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has heaped praise on Nigerian trio Chibuike Nwaiwu, Paul Onuachu and Anthony Nwakaeme in Trabzonspor’s 2-1 win over Galatasaray, Afrik Foot reports.

The three Nigerian players, all in different stages of their football careers, were involved in Trabzonspor’s goals as Fatih Tekke’s men went to within one point of Galatasaray.

Paul Onuachu broke the deadlock inside three minutes, scoring a brilliant solo effort, before Nwakaeme’s cross was headed in by Nwaiwu in the second half to seal all three points for Trabzonspor.

Onazi lauds Trabzonspor-Super Eagles in Galatasaray defeat

Ogenyi spent four years at Trabzonspor after his time with Lazio in Italy. He recorded 79 appearances for the Turkish Super Lig side, scoring seven goals.

In an interview with Footy Africa, the AFCON 2013 winner revealed he was pleased with how his former side performed against Galatasaray.

“I followed the game here in America and I was excited seeing all three Nigerians start the game and make goal contributions.

“I am not sure there is any other time three Nigerians started for any Turkish side or were involved in all the goals in a win.

“I doubt it has happened before. I am happy for Tony (Nwakaeme). We played together at Trabzon when I was there, and it is good to see him still pulling the strings there.”

“Paul (Onuachu) has been very impressive this season, and I think he will win the top scorer’s award, while the young defender, Nwaiwu, is just magnificent, honestly.

“I think he has about three goals as a defender, even though he joined them not too long ago.

“I am very happy for them and the win. I wish them all the best this season,” the 33-year-old concluded.
