‘Referee was blowing in our favour’ – Mixed reactions as Super Eagles edge Libya in crucial AFCON qualifier

Nigeria's Super Eagles resumed their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) qualifying campaign against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya on Friday evening.

Libya were in the hunt for their first win of the AFCON qualifiers, and were hoping to halt their four-match losing streak against Nigeria. Despite being the overwhelming underdogs, Milutin Sredojevic's men held their own for over 85 minutes.

However, it was business as usual for the Super Eagles as Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s 86th-minute strike was enough to secure all the spoils for the hosts.

After Nigeria's hard-fought victory, Super Eagles fans made their thoughts known on X (formerly Twitter).

Where does this result leave the Super Eagles?

Austin Eguavoen's men have retained their place at the top of Group D. They have earned seven points from a possible nine and are closely followed by Benin Republic with six points.

On the other hand, Libya find themselves at the bottom of the table with only one point from three AFCON qualifying games.
