The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Seleção of Portugal in an international friendly match on Wednesday, Afrik-Foot reports.
The game is important for both teams, with head coach Roberto Martínez looking to ascertain the readiness of his Portuguese squad, while Eric Chelle continues to instill his tactical philosophy into the Nigerian players.
The match will be played at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, serving as a send-off for the Seleção before they travel to the United States for the World Cup.

Ahead of the fixture, both coaches expressed their desire to win. At Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Martínez was full of praise for the Super Eagles, highlighting the quality of the squad and Chelle’s tactical imprint.
”In terms of Nigeria’s forward players, I think there are qualities that will be very helpful for us to practice defending as a team, specifically for the aspects we need to prepare for against DR Congo,” Martínez told Shina Oludare.
”I expect a very competitive Nigerian team. I enjoyed their last friendly game against Poland.”
”I love the coach’s ideas. I think they are a flexible team that uses different systems and fits players into various positions. I can see that, although players like Osimhen and Lookman are not here, they are replaced by other players who maintain a really high level of performance.”
”So, I expect a very competitive game against real quality players with a lot of experience—players whom I know very, very well. I believe this competitive match will help both teams in many aspects.”
Underlining How Super Eagles Game Will Help Portugal
Portugal will face an African opponent, DR Congo, in their opening World Cup match on June 17, so this fixture gives them a taste of what to expect from that encounter.

Over the past 18 months, coach Eric Chelle has done a significant amount of work on the team, turning them into a formidable force. They play with intensity, maintain a solid tactical shape, and create scoring opportunities with ease.
Aside from the fact that the Super Eagles are an African team, the Portuguese will face an opponent that plays with high intensity. That will definitely test their fitness levels.
Also, Chelle has proven to be tactically astute, so Martínez will have a tough task attempting to outsmart the Franco-Malian tactician. It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top after 90 minutes.

Despite the absence of top attackers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagles still pose a significant threat in attack.
Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu have been amongst the goals. Moses Simon and Philip Otele can also provide moments of brilliance in the attack. So the Portuguese defenders will definitely have to be solid at the back.
