Super Falcons star shockingly backtracks on NFF criticism: ‘Things have changed for the better’

Super Falcons fan favorite, Michelle Alozie has walked back her earlier criticism of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), signalling a surprising shift in stance ahead of Nigeria’s double-header friendly against Cameroon.

The Houston Dash defender had drawn headlines earlier this month when she voiced her dismay at the conditions she encountered during her early days with the Super Falcons, notably being expected to hand-wash her own training kit. The disparity with the Super Eagles’ treatment, she implied, was glaring.

But speaking from the team’s camp in Ogun State, where preparations are underway for the 2025 Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Alozie struck a notably different tone.

Super Falcons and the quiet reckoning within the NFF

“I am excited for the upcoming training camp and to be back with the Super Falcons; it’s my first time in Ogun State! Everyone is looking forward to the Women AFCON and that is our main focus,” Michelle Alozie said.

“The way we are treated has changed in the past few years, for the better, especially with our continued success over the years. I am happy to see the steady change as women’s sports across the world continue to achieve and fight for more equality.”

Alozie’s comments come in the aftermath of a searing documentary released by the team in their 2024 Olympic build-up, which laid bare years of neglect and institutional dysfunction under the NFF.

While the wounds remain fresh, her words suggest a possible internal course correction, if not a full reckoning.

With competitive friendlies and a focused camp lined up, the Super Falcons are stepping up their build-up to WAFCON where they’ll aim to reclaim their continental crown.
