During his time with Les Phocéens, the 2005 U20 FIFA World Cup 3rd best player made 271 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 23 assists. His contributions were pivotal in Marseille’s Ligue 1 triumph in the 2009–10 season, as well as their back-to-back Coupe de la Ligue titles in 2010 and 2011, and the Trophée des Champions win in 2010.

After his successful stint in France, Taiwo moved to AC Milan in 2011 and had spells with Queens Park Rangers and Dynamo Kyiv before retiring in 2019.

Despite playing for several top clubs, it was his time at Marseille that defined his career, and the club’s recognition reflects his impact on and off the pitch.

1. The Coupe de la Ligue final winner vs Montpellier (2011)

Perhaps Taiwo’s most iconic goal came in the 2011 Coupe de la Ligue final. With the game tied at 0-0, Taiwo unleashed a trademark left-footed strike from outside the box, securing a 1-0 victory and delivering Marseille’s second consecutive League Cup title.

He was deservedly named Man of the Match for his performance at the Stade de France.

2. Long-range thunderbolt vs Lyon (2010)

In a crucial Ligue 1 clash against rivals Lyon in March 2010, Taiwo produced a stunning goal from over 30 yards out. His powerful left-footed drive left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot, helping Marseille to a 2-1 victory as they surged towards the league title.

3. UEFA Cup strike vs Spartak Moscow (2008)

In the 2008 UEFA Cup, Taiwo showcased his European pedigree with a screamer against Spartak Moscow. His goal in the third round’s first leg was the highlight of a dominant 3-0 win, underlining his ability to deliver on the continental stage.

4. Equalizer in Coupe de France vs Besançon (2009)

Taiwo’s composure was on full display in a Coupe de France tie against Besançon. Trailing 1-0, he stepped up to score the equalizer and later converted in the penalty shootout, helping Marseille advance in the competition.

5. Solo run and Finish vs Paris Saint-Germain (2008)

In a heated Le Classique encounter against PSG, Taiwo not only defended impeccably but also contributed offensively with a brilliant solo goal. Picking up the ball from deep, he charged forward and rifled a shot past the PSG goalkeeper, sealing a 2-1 win for Marseille.
