Trabzonspor drop fruitless Onuachu chase, target Nigerian Ligue 1 striker

Trabzonspor have sent a loan bid to Olympique Lyonnais for Nigerian forward Gift Orban.

With the Turkish transfer window still open until September 13, Trabzonspor are keen to bolster their attacking options before the deadline.

The former Turkish Super Lig champions have been in pursuit of a centre-forward since Paul Onuachu’s loan spell expired. Although the club had been in advanced talks with Southampton to make the Nigeria international's move permanent, the negotiations hit a snag due to Southampton’s €13 million asking price, with Trabzonspor only willing to offer half.

Now, the Turkish side appear ready to shift their focus to Gift Orban.

Would Lyon let Gift Orban leave?

According to reports, Trabzonspor are offering Lyon a €1 million fee for the deal. The offer includes an obligation to buy for €6 million, which would be triggered if Gift Orban scores 20 league goals.

While Lyon have yet to respond to the proposal, it seems unlikely they will accept the deal. the seven-time French champions paid €14 million to sign Orban from Gent just nine months ago, and they may be reluctant to take a loss on the striker, especially after his recent form, including a brace against RC Strasbourg.

Following the signing of Georges Mikautadze earlier this summer, Lyon had considered offloading Orban.

However, with Mikautadze struggling and Orban stepping up, Lyon might reconsider their stance on a potential loan deal. Whether Trabzonspor’s offer meets Lyon’s expectations remains to be seen.
