Report: Umar Sadiq’s stubbornness hurting transfer chances

Published on by

Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq's steadfast desire to remain in Spain is leading to complications where his transfer prospects are concerned.

Despite interest from various clubs, his reluctance to consider offers from teams outside of Spain is creating a challenging situation for both the player and Real Sociedad.

Sadiq signed with Real Sociedad in 2022 following impressive performances at Almeria, where he scored 43 goals and provided 19 assists in 84 games. The Txuri-urdin shattered their transfer record to acquire him, spending €20 million on the deal.

It seemed destined to be a perfect match when the Super Eagles star netted a goal in his debut against Atletico Madrid.

However, things quickly soured in Sadiq's third match for Real Sociedad when he sustained a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Although Sadiq made a comeback at the start of the following season, he had already lost his spot in the lineup.

He scored three goals in La Liga for his club, but it was clear that coach Imanol Alguacil was unimpressed with his output, opting instead for Sheraldo Becker and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Umar Sadiq's future at Real Sociedad: Conflicting reports

Sadiq's future at Real Sociedad remains uncertain amidst conflicting reports and challenges.

Mundo Deportivo have reported that the 27-year-old forward has expressed a desire to leave Anoeta after struggling since his arrival.

Spanish clubs like Getafe and Alavés have shown interest in a loan move, but may struggle to meet Sociedad's financial demands, as well as Sadiq's high wages, according to COPE.

Real Sociedad are clearly willing to part ways with Sadiq. However, in the event that they cannot find a buyer, the club believe there is no benefit in loaning him out now, preferring instead for him to gain form in friendlies.

It is clear that Sadiq wishes to stay in Spain, although uncertainties persist regarding Sociedad's demands and his salary requirements.
