Victor Osimhen transfer news: Why Galatasaray striker cannot join Juventus this summer

Published on by

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with a plethora of top European clubs this summer, Afrik Foot reports.

Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are all reported to have registered interest in the 27-year-old ahead of a potential summer move.

Manchester United legends Patrice Evra, Louis Saha and Rio Ferdinand also believe the 2023 CAF Player of the Year is the man to breathe life into the attack at Old Trafford, turning them into title contenders once again after years of plummeting standards at the Theatre of Dreams.

Juventus, meanwhile, are looking for a striker this summer with Dusan Vlahovic set to leave on a free at the end of his contract in June. The Old Ladies are lurking in the shadows, eyeing a move for Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen, having previously played for Napoli, revealed back in February that a move to the Allianz Arena in Turin would be a dream for any player.

“Juventus is one of the most important clubs, they’re steeped in history and have a lot of legends who have played for them,” the Super Eagles striker said in quotes revealed by Il Bianconero.

“I think when they spoke to me, I was eager to come before Galatasaray showed up. There were a few obstacles, but unfortunately the move didn’t happen.

“I definitely think that if opportunities arise, there are several clubs I’d love to play for; it would be a privilege to represent Juventus. I’m happy at the club I’m at now.

“As for the future, I don’t know what will happen; 90% of players around the world would love to play for Juventus.”

While those comments clearly signify interest in joining Juventus, it’ll be very hard for the Bianconeri to pursue a move at this time, considering their financial situation.

Why Victor Osimhen cannot join Juventus this summer

Juventus are only just gradually recovering from a major financial crisis, but continue to navigate significant structural deficits and debt. The club reduced its recent pre-tax loss to around €50-58 million, but still operate under strict UEFA squad cost regulation.

In relation to Victor Osimhen, Spanish outlet AS revealed that Napoli included a clause in the striker’s deal when he joined Galatasaray permanently.

If the Turkish club sells the Nigerian striker to any Serie A team before the summer of 2027, they must pay Napoli a penalty of 70 million euros.

Galatasaray splashed €75m to secure the Nigerian’s services last summer, and factoring in the clause in Osimhen’s contract, the club will sanction a sale for a fee of around €200m, which no Italian team can afford at the moment.

In the meantime, the Galatasaray striker will be out of action for the Super Eagles in their friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
