Victor Osimhen: Why Manchester United may be a better fit than Arsenal

Victor Osimhen’s future has become a major talking point in the Premier League, with Arsenal interested in the Super Eagles striker and Manchester United emerging as a potential destination, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian forward has been linked with a move to England for several years, and his latest goalscoring exploits at Galatasaray have done little to diminish interest in his services.

Arsenal’s pursuit has intensified following their difficulties in securing their preferred attacking target, while Manchester United are also believed to be considering further reinforcements in attack despite the arrival of Benjamin Sesko.

However, former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes Osimhen’s next destination could ultimately be Old Trafford, claiming the Nigerian is a boyhood supporter of the club and is still waiting for United to make their move.

“I know for a fact that Victor Osimhen is a Manchester United fan,” the 48-year-old said in quotes revealed by Metro UK.

“He loves Man United. I have seen it in his eyes, the impact the club has on him, and he sees the impact he could have on this team.”

The Frenchman went further, arguing that Osimhen would be a better fit for United than the more established Harry Kane because of Sesko’s presence, while suggesting the Nigerian could either compete with the Slovenian for the striker’s role or play alongside him.

Manchester United can offer Victor Osimhen a different role

There is a strong footballing argument behind Saha’s assessment. Osimhen’s greatest strength is his ability to threaten the opposition penalty area without needing a huge volume of touches.

His movement behind defenders, willingness to attack crosses and ability to stretch defensive lines make him very dangerous, and that could suit Manchester United.

The Red Devils have already added Sesko, but the Slovenian’s presence does not necessarily eliminate the need for another high-level striker.

Sesko offers his own combination of height, movement and technical ability, while Osimhen brings an established goalscoring record and immense pressing ability.

Saha has argued that the pair could compete for the same position while also playing together in certain situations.

That possibility is important because it means Osimhen would not necessarily be arriving simply as Sesko’s understudy; he could become another attacking reference point.

Arsenal are the better team

Arsenal’s stance is much different. Mikel Arteta has built one of the Premier League’s most structured teams, with an emphasis on positional play, controlled possession and creating overloads around the opposition box.

A striker with Osimhen’s movement and physical qualities could certainly add another dimension to that attack. The dilemma is whether Arsenal need Osimhen as much as United do.

Arsenal already possess several high-level attacking options, meaning Osimhen would be joining an established system where his role would have to fit around the demands of Arteta’s structure.

At United, the situation is arguably different. The club still needs to establish a reliable attacking hierarchy, and Osimhen could immediately become one of the central figures in that project.

Osimhen has never been a passive striker. His game is built around aggression, confidence and an almost constant desire to press defenders.

He wants to be involved, wants chances and is capable of demanding responsibility when his team needs a goal, and that personality will most certainly be loved at Old Trafford.

Osimhen’s relationship with Manchester United

Saha’s claim that Osimhen is a Manchester United supporter should not, by itself, determine where the striker moves.

Footballers routinely have childhood allegiances that become less important once professional considerations enter the picture, but in a transfer where the sporting projects are close, that emotional connection could become significant.

Saha said he had seen the impact Manchester United has on Osimhen and believes the Nigerian understands the influence he could have at the club.

That is a striking claim, particularly because United remain one of the biggest clubs in world football despite their recent struggles.

Osimhen has already experienced success with Napoli and Galatasaray. His next move therefore does not simply have to be about finding a bigger salary or another club with Champions League ambitions.

It could be about finding the project where he can become the face of the attack, and Manchester United can offer that possibility.

Arsenal, meanwhile, can offer a more settled footballing environment and a team that has been competing near the top of the Premier League.

For Osimhen, it would come down to an interesting choice between joining a club that may currently be closer to challenging for major honours and joining one that needs him more.
